ATHLETICS Tasmania is once again organising some major cross country events at the Pontville Equestrian and Sporting Complex, with more than 1000 runners set to take on the challenging course, over three days of competition.
It all begins with the Running Edge southern inter high cross country carnival on Thursday, July 29. This event will have approximately 500 high school students from Southern Tasmania testing themselves in distances from three to six kilometres.Two days later will see the IGA Tasmanian cross country championships. This will see athletes aged 10 - 82 years of age, competing events from three to 12 kilometres. Highlights of the day will be the open men 12 kilometres and open women eight kilometre races, which will also be used to select the state team to attend the Australian cross country championships in Brisbane in August.
Then on Monday, August 2, for the first time, the Southern Sports Association of Tasmania for Independent Schools (SSATIS) will hold its event at Pontville. Previously SSATIS held its annual carnival at Rokeby Police Academy but has now moved, thanks to the scenic course and wonderful facilities at Pontville.
Spectators are welcome at any of the three days of competition, with free entry for all.
